Kasese leaders raise need for government to support the flood victims.

Kasese: Leaders in Kasese district have appealed to the central government to come to the rescue of the flood victims who were on Sunday 23rd May 2021 hit by floods and mudslides in Kilembe Sub County. More than 70 households were on Sunday morning affected.

It is reported that a heavy downpour that lasted for more than five hours befell the area and caused mudslides and floods that claimed at the lives of the three people.

Currently, over three hundred people including pregnant mothers, children and people living with disabilities are encamped at Kyambogho Primary school following the flood incident.

According to the General Secretary for the district disaster management committee Mr. Joseph Isingoma, the displaced persons will be verified to ascertain their genuine status before being taken to Muhokya Internally Displaced Camp in Muhokya Town Council.

Speaking to Rwenzori Daily, some of the victims claimed that since the incident, they have not received any assistance from neither the local leaders nor the government.

Responding to the victims decry, the District Chair, Eliphaz Muhindo Bukombi, observed the need for the central government to quickly intervene and provide relief to the affected persons. However, he also challenged the people who were still living in disaster prone areas to vacate to safe places.
