Lack of safe, clean water in Mbunga worries residents

By Joackim Kule

The lack of safe and clean drinking water in Mbunga sub-county, Busongora County South in Kasese district has worried the residents.

The residents argue that the problem is likely to slow down the development in the area because some are forced to trek long distances in search of water for domestic use.

Alfred Masereka, the Chairperson Local Council I for Kanone village in Bunyakalijja Parish says the lack of clean and safe drinking water in the area puts the lives of the residents in fear of contracting water borne diseases. He calls on government to quickly intervene before the situation goes out of hand.

Stephen Kyighisyabunji and Amos Musabuli, both residents of Mbunga village allege that the area is also underserved in terms of road network which they claim is very poor and therefore does not facilitate easy transportation of their agricultural produce to the market centres in Kasese town.

They appeal to the district leadership to look into the matter for the benefit of the people in the area.

The Busongora South Member of Parliament, Gideon Thembo Mujungu, however, says Rwenzori Action for Tourism Services, a local based organization has inspected the area purposely to construct piped water to relieve the residents.

He courts the residents to support such an initiative for their own benefit.
