Kasese district is set to resume the Covid-19 vaccination exercise shortly after receiving the vaccines from the Ministry of Health this week.
On July 31st, the Ministry of Health received 586,080 doses of Covid-19 as a donation to support the vaccination programme and has since started distributing the vaccines to different districts across the country.
Kasese district has seen at least 3,000 people receive their first jab while some of them have received their second jabs of Astrazeneca.
The district also has more than 1000 cumulative cases of Covid-19 and 8000 recoveries with more than 30 deaths.
Dr. Yusuf Baseke, the District Health Officer says they will give a priority to the people that have already received their first jabs and other high risk categories of people including teachers, teachers and those with underlying conditions.
Dr. Baseke however adds that people should continue observing the standard operating procedures put in place by the Ministry of Health in a bid to forestall the spread of Covid-19.
He is so disappointed that after easing the lockdown restrictions, some people have started violating the Standard Operating Procedures thus putting the district at risk of registering a surge in the number of Covid-19 positive cases.
On 31st July, President Museveni eased the lockdown restrictions and allowed public transport o resume with 50% of their passenger capacity but some drivers seem not to have adhered to the directive.
President Museveni noted that the lockdown had been of great help leading to a reduction in daily confirmed cases from 1735to an average of 71 per day whereas the positivity rate had also gone down from 22% to only 8%.
The President said that if the preventive measures are taken serious the country may avoid the third wave.
