Fish traders in Mawa market defy resolution by the Municipal leadership.

By our Reporter

The fish traders in Mawa market have defied the resolution by the Municipal leadership to relocate them to Saad market near the Railway Police Station.

The resolution was reached as a measure to decongest them in order to get enough space for social distancing as recommendation by the Ministry of Health to forestall by the spread of Covid-19.

However, some of the fish traders who talked to our reporter yesterday during the market day said there was no way to shift to Saad Market arguing that it was far away from their customers.

Gideon Mukirania, the Secretary for the Vendors, however, explained that the decision was taken by the Nyamwamba Division leadership in their stakeholders’ meeting. He quickly asked the traders to respond positively to the guidelines meant to forestall the spread of Covid-19.

Chance Kahindo, the Kasese Municipality Mayor, explained that the resolution was reached for the safety of the vendors.

He, however, said after listening to the concerns of the affected vendors, they resorted talking to the management of Kasese Central Baptist Church to avail space to the fish dealers.
