The National Unity Platform Principal, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu has officially endorsed Mr. Jackson Mbaju Kathika as the official flag bearer for the forthcoming Busongora South Constituency by-election.
The seat fell vacant last month following a court of appeal ruling on a petition filed against by Kathika against the then area MP, Gideon Thembo Mujungu over some irregularities that marred the January 14, 2021 parliamentary elections.
Following the Court of Appeal ruling that overturned the earlier decision of the High Court in Fort-portal, Mujungu was thrown out of parliament and the Electoral Commission was ordered to organize fresh elections.
The Electoral Commission has since set August 18, 2022 as the date on which the by-election will be held.
Other political parties have also presented their flag bearers including Aloysius Baguma Kighema for FDC, Gideon Thembo Mujungu for NRM and Bernadette Businge for DP among other interested aspiring candidates and according to a road map from the Electoral body, the campaigns are expected to begin on July 10th – 16th.
