Internal bickering among the members of the NRM party in Kasese district has been singled out as the major reason for the party’s loss in the general elections.
This was observed during a two-day retreat for the party members in Bukonzo County West that ended last week at Bwera Secondary School. The retreat was organized under the theme, “The People Initiated Retreat.”
The members and leaders observed that the party lost the parliamentary seat for two consecutive terms in the constituency due to misunderstandings within the members.
The retreat also cited and discussed other inter-party conflicts that happened during the recent past elections which they said led to their defeat. According to them, the Kasese District Woman Parliamentary seat was lost to FDC’s Florence Kabugho due to the conflicts that erupted between Sarah Ithungu and Mary Marylyn Kabugho.
Basing on this background, the retreat resolved that there should be harmony and reconciliation among the party members if they are to gain momentum during the 2026 general elections.
The retreat also welcomed the newly recruited members from the main opposition political parties including the FDC and NUP.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Gideon Sanyu Ntabose said that they had all come to the party whole heartedly.
In his address, the Minister of State in-charge of National Guidance, Godfrey Baluku Kabbyanga Kime, said that in order to avoid the internal conflicts within the party, the government should give jobs to those who fail during the party primary elections.
Ferigo Kambale, the Kasese Municipality MP, also conquered with the rest of the members, saying that the party loses because of its members who contest as independent candidates against the official flag bearers.
He quickly extended his appreciation to the newly recruited party members led by Gideon Sanyu Ntabose.
Officiating at the function, the NRM National Vice Chairperson in-charge of Western region, Dr. Chris Baryomunsi pledged total support to the party as well as the entire Kasese district.
The retreat left one, Samuel Aheebwa, the former candidate for the Kasese Municipality Mayoral seat on the NUP ticket cross to the NRM party and was officially received by Dr. Baryomunsi.
