Unvaccinated teachers in Kasese to be denied access to their schools as they reopen

By Zalimon Basighalha (Good Luck)

The Kasese District Education department has revealed that unvaccinated teachers, non teaching staff and learners aged 18 and above will not be allowed to access the school premises on Monday January 10, 2022 as institutions of learning officially reopen.

According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Covid-19 vaccines are effective and can reduce the risk of getting and spreading the virus that causes Covid-19 as well as helping children and adults from getting seriously ill even if they get Covid-19.

Last year on December 06, the government of Uganda through the Ministry of Health in collaboration with the Sans Frontier Medicines, launched a 10-day mass vaccination of Covid-19 in Kasese district to bring the vaccines nearer to the local people and to ensure everybody who is aged 18 and above is vaccinated.

Basing on this, the Kasese District Education Officer, George S. Mayinja has issued a statement indicating that there will be no teacher or non-teaching staff that will be allowed to access school premises without presenting Covid -19 vaccination cards.

Speaking to our reporter at his office on Wednesday morning, Mayinja explained that the department decided to ban such categories of people from accessing the school premises to ensure that the learners are safe from contracting Covid-19.

According to Mayinja, all educational institutions will be forced to comply with the Standard Operating Procedures including social distancing and conducting classes in bigger spaces as well as wearing facemasks.
