TRANSLATION OF KINANDE BIBLE VERSION INTO THE LHUKONZO LANGUAGE IS STEADILY ROLLING

BY ZALIMON BASIGHALHA (GOODLUCK)

A committee that was formed to translate the Kinande Bible version into the Lhukonzo language is steadily progressing with its work.

The committee that is chaired by Rev. Can. Dr. Benson Baguma has so far translated at least 18 Biblical Books from Kinande to the original Lhukonzo language with funding from the Bible Society of Uganda.

Rev. Can. Dr. Baguma made the revelation on Thursday while speaking to the press during the closure of their two-week Review Meeting that was held at Virina Gardens in Kasese town.

According to Rev. Can. Dr. Baguma, the current Lhukonzo Bible which is written in Kinande version, is very difficult to read and understood by some of the readers and listeners respectively, a reason why the Bible Society of Uganda opted to translate it into the Lhukonzo language.

The ongoing translation of the Lhukonzo Holy Bible is being done by a team of four people from the Anglican Church, the Roman Catholic Church, the Seventh Day Adventist Church and the Pentecostal Churches of Uganda.

The members of the translation team include Rev. Can. Dr. Benson Baguma, as the Project Coordinator from the Anglican Church, Rev. Fr. Balinande Kambale from the Roman Catholic Church, Pastor Herizon Bwambale from the SDA Church and Irene Masika from the Pentecostal Churches.

According to Rev. Can. Baguma, the translation team was given a period of 08 years to have completed their work.

He appealed to the public to keep praying for them as they carry out such a spiritually driven exercise.

In his remarks, Rev. Fr. Peter Basaliza Mubunga who leads the Lhukonzo Bible Reviewers said he was happy with the translating team for having translated 18 Biblical Books in a period of one year

According to Rev. Fr. Mubunga, the team members have not changed the meaning of the Biblical verses, adding that they have also respected the Canons.
