Rwenzururu Kingdom subjects urged t o embrace SOPs.

By Our Reporter

Rwenzururu Kingdom subjects have been called upon to embrace the Standard Operating Procedures as issued by the Ministry of Health to curb down the spread of Covid-19.

The call was contained in a message by the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. Joseph Kule Muranga as the Kingdom celebrated the 59th Independence Day.

The movement declared an independent Kingdom of Rwenzururu on 30 June 1962, three months before national independence, with Isaya Mukirania as King. The Rwenzururu flag was then hoisted at Kasulenge in Bundibugyo district.

Speaking to the press today morning, Muranga explained that the day was not celebrated as it used to be in the past because of Covid-19 where congregational events are currently on halt coupled with the absence of the reigning King, Omusinga Charles Wesley Mumbere Iremangoma, who is still restricted from travelling to his Kingdom as part of his bail terms.

Asked about the progress of some negotiations between the Kingdom and the government over the people who are still incarcerated including the King, Muranga said their efforts were hampered by the partial lockdown that has seen some of the court sessions temporally suspended.

And in Kasese Municipality, a group of carpenters celebrated the day in style and according to their Chairperson, Yosia Kambere Kibindo, said they would have celebrated the day with the rest of the people but they were limited by the prevalence of Covid-19.

Juliet Masika, challenged her fellow women to always participate in the activities of the Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu in a bid to uplift the cultural institution.
