Landlords whose houses have no latrines in Kasese Municipality risk being arrested

By Baluku Alex

Landlords whose houses have no latrines in Nyamwamba Division of Kasese Municipality are at a risk of being arrested and subsequently prosecuted in the courts of law.

The Division Chairperson, Pimako Kasereka says he has given a two months ultimatum to whoever has no latrine on their buildings because they are contaminating the environment and breaking the public health laws.

He sounded the remarks of Friday while speaking to our reporter shortly after a communal activity of cleaning some of the streets in the division. The councilors and civil servants joined hands with the residents to have the exercise successfully.

Kasereka has since ordered the area Health Inspector to make impromptu visits to the different homes so that those who might be found with no latrines face the law.

Lillian Kisembo, the Senior Assistant Town Clerk for Nyamwamba Division explained that on top of their failure to acquire building plans, some stubborn landlords have also allowed tenants to occupy their buildings before constructing latrines.

Mary Consolate Kabugho, the area Health Inspector appealed to the population to put in place everything that is needed to maintain health and sanitation. According to her, over 80% of the diseases that affect the population are as a result of people living in unclean environment.
