Kathika to run to Court of Appeal after losing his election petition

By Basighalha Zalimon

Jackson Mbaju Kathika, the former Busongora South Member of Parliament who ran to the High Court in Fort-portal to challenge the election of Gideon Thembo Mujungu as the duly elected Member of Parliament in the January 14 elections has vowed to run to the Court of Appeal.

The development comes after High Court sitting on Monday in Fort-portal and presided over by Hon. Lady Justice Victorious Katamba dismissed with costs the election petition that Kathika had filed challenging the election of Mujungu arguing that it was full of irregularities including ballot stuffing and lack of credible academic papers among others.

While delivering her judgment, Hon. Lady Justice Katamba argued that Court was not satisfied with the evidence that the petitioner had produced before it; a reason why she decided to dismisse the petition with costs.

Asked his next course of action after the Court’s ruling, Kathika was quick to say that he would immediately appeal against the ruling in the Court of Appeal.

Speaking to the press shortly after the Court session, Mujungu, who was the first respondent in the petition, happily said Court delivered the exact justice that everyone was longing for.
