Kasese Municipality has received 33 billion-USMID fund

By Matiya Tubamanya

Kasese Municipal Council has received shillings 33 billion from the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development under the Uganda Support to Municipal Infrastructural Development- USMID.

The same amount of money was in 2019/2020 financial year disbursed to the Municipal Bank Account but due to some misunderstandings between the bidders who wanted to contract the construction of roads within the urban centre, the Ministry decided to take the money back.

Chance Kahindo, the Municipality Mayor says the received money will be used to construct most roads in all the three Divisions including Kasese Central, Nyamwamba and Bulembia.

Kahindo said despite going through a number of challenges during the bidding process, the contract has officially been awarded to China Rail 18 which will work on most roads in Kasese Municipality, Fort-portal Mineral City and Hoima City.

According to Kahindo, Kasese Municipal Council will then in the next week sign a local content and Memorandum of Understanding with the contractor. But the Mayor quickly said they will ask the contractor to employ the local people within the district as a means of creating employment.
