Hotel and Lodge proprietors in Kasese asked to be mindful of the labor laws

By Rwenzori Daily

The Kasese District Labor Officer has challenged both employers and employees to be mindful of the labor laws.

Margret Biira says it is a responsibility of every employee to be acquainted with the terms and conditions under which they are working.

She sounded the challenge on Thursday while meeting the Hotel and Lodge Proprietors at the Mayor’s Gardens in Kasese town.

According to Biira, many employees are not aware of their rights at their various places of work and at the end they are exploited.

The Labor Officer strongly warns the employers to always give contracts stipulating the terms and conditions of employment to the employees. She is optimistic that once this is done, conflicts between the workers and their bosses would be brought to an end.

She categorically explains that most employers do not give contracts to their employees because they fear taking them to the courts of law when they fail to fulfill the terms and conditions as stipulated in the contract.

Biira also says currently cases of sexual harassment to many girls working in bars are common. In most cases, many girls have been threatened that they would be sacked if they refused to admire to the sexual demands by their bosses.
