Government rejects supply of blankets and mosquito nets to flood victims in Kasese.

Government has rejected 1000 blankets and another 1000 mosquito nets that had been donated to the flood victims in Kasese district.

This was after the Prime Minister, Robinah Nabbanja observed that they were of poor quality and therefore they could not do much to serve the purpose for which they were meant. Nabbanja argued that Kasese was not a dumping site for substandard materials.

The Prime Minister and a team of ministers were in Kasese today to assess the impact of the continuous flood disasters in the district. She however okayed the supply of 4,000 kilograms of posho, 2,000 kilograms of beans, 2,000 kilograms of sugar, 1,000 Jerricans and tauplins among other items.

Addressing the displaced persons encamped at Muhokya, Nabbanja officially communicated that the President had directed her office to buy land on which they would permanently be resettled. She also directed the district leaders to look for a free land so that government buys it to the flood victims for settlement.

On the issue of lack of water in Muhokya Internally Displaced Camp, the Prime Minister directed the State Minister for Environment to extend water in the camp within a period of two weeks.

On his part, the State Minister for Disaster Preparedness and Refugees, Engineer Hillary Onek, said the issue of relocating the flood victims would be immediately the leaders identify free land for buy government to buy so that the presidential the presidential pledge is fulfilled.

The State Minister for ICT in-charge of National Guidance, Godfrey Baluku Kabbyanga Kime, said the issue of Nyamwamba River can only be solved if government identifies a potential investor to take over Kilembe Mines.
