Flood victims in kasese not happy with government for its delay to de-silt Nyamwamba river chanel

By Baluku Alex

Local leaders from Kanyangeya Main cell in Nyamwamba Division of Kasese Municipality are not happy with government for its alleged delay to de-silt River Nyamwamba Water Channel.

The leaders led by the area L. C I Chairperson, Deo Isemamba argue that despite several promises by government officials that they would de-silt the water channel, nothing has been done and the residents have continued losing their houses to the floods.

According to Isemamba, political and technical leaders from Kasese District Local Government recently visited the area and pledged to respond in a period of two weeks but no response has yet been given to them.

He is therefore skeptical that the people in the affected area might die even when the leaders are watching following their alleged delay.

John Bagonza Kibethe, the Chairperson for the flood victims currently encamped at Kanyangeya Primary School, says following the delay by government to work on the water channel, the area local leadership has mobilized the community members and launched a fundraising drive that is aimed at collecting shillings seven million to work on the core hotspots areas.

He is however happy that at least two politicians including the Kasese Woman MP, Florence Kabugho and her Kasese Municipality counterpart, Ferigo Kambale have each contributed shillings one million for the noble cause.
