Expectant mothers still flock Rukooki Health Centre III.

By Baluku Alex

Expectant mothers are still flocking Rukooki Health Center III in Kasese Municipality expecting to get maternal health services.

On Friday last week, the maternity ward at the facility was gutted by fire that was alleged to have started in the cold chine room before it spread to the rest of the rooms including the postnatal and antenatal rooms.

Rukooki Health Center is a government facility that offers free health services and is in the process of being upgraded to a health centre IV.

The expectant mothers who had not yet known that the facility was gutted by fire have been thronging the facility expecting to get services.

Dr. Joyfred Kayiri, the Health Centre In-Charge told our reporter that at least five expectant mothers received at the facility on daily basis are referred to nearby health facilities.

Now, the agony experienced by the expectant mothers will soon be history because the Ugandan Ministry of Health has been notified about the incident.

The Kasese District Woman Member of Parliament, Florence Kabugho says that she has written to the Ministry about the incident and a delegation will come very soon to assess the magnitude caused by the fire.

The journalist turned politician hailed the former Kasese Municipality MP, Robert Centenary for connecting her to the relevant offices where she submitted her official letter requesting for support to the health facility.
