Eight Electoral Officials who were manning four polling stations during the 2021 general elections in Busongora County South, Kasese district have been blacklisted from participating in the constituency by –election slated for August 18, 2022.

The blacklisted officials who were from Busunga, Hamukungu, Katunguru Primary School and Quran Polling Stations are accused of allegedly participating in some irregularities that were cited by now the NUP’s candidate, Jackson Mbaju Kathika.

Mr. Ismael Atwijukire Takih, the Kasese District Returning Officer told all the seven candidates during their harmonization meeting at the Kasese Branch Electoral Commission Offices that the commission will not deploy any of the affected officers.

He was responding to concerns presented by Mr. Kathika who according to him government spends a lot of money when such irregularities are sighted in an election.

Bernadette Businge, the DP candidate said that all candidates need equal treatment by the relevant stakeholders including security operatives.

She asked her fellow candidates to desist from hate speech as they go on with their campaigns.

The Kasese Divisional Police Commander, Wilfred Bagenda who represented the Rwenzori East Regional Police Commander, appealed to the candidates to carry on their campaigns in line with the law as guided by the Electoral Commission.
