The Centre for Hope and Life in after Prison Initiative – CHALAPI-Uganda, a Nongovernmental organization operating from the Rwenzori Sub-region has donated relief items to the Congolese refugees encamped at Nyamambuka Playground in Mpondwe – Lhubiriha Town Council, Kasese district.
The 3,000 Congolese refugees started entering Uganda especially Kasese district via the porous entry points on Monday last week fleeing the ADF insurgency in the Eastern part of the Country.

On Tuesday Morning, a team from CHALAPI – Uganda led by their Executive Director, Godfrey Kule Kiwede visited the refugees and donated 60 bunches of Matooke together with 200 kilograms of cassava flour to them.
Kiwede said they decided to donate to the refugees after looking at the suffering that they are going through especially after leaving their homes to a foreign land in fear for their dear lives.

He also observed need for the religious leaders to offer them psychosocial support as a means to restore hope that at an appropriate time, they shall return to their respective homes in DRC.
Michael Nyanzi, an official from the Care and Assistance for Post Migrants who is in charge of the stores at the refugee camp described the donation as timely, adding that many organizations have also demonstrated the same to relieve the refugees of the food challenges.
Lt. Joe Walusimbi, the Kasese Resident District Commissioner, also described the donation as timely since the beneficiaries are in trying moments.
Some of the beneficiaries hailed the Ugandan government and well-wishers for their generosity.
