KAMPALA– The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda The Most Rev Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu has declared October 3rd 2021 a day of speacial Thanksgiving prayer for overcoming many months of closure for places of worship across the country.
According to a letter dated 26th September 2021 addressed to all Bishops, the Clergy and all christians, the Archbishop implored them to continue observing the Standard Operating Procedures and also get vaccinated as a sure way of fighting COVID-19.
He therefore announced Sunday 3rd Oct as general Thanksgiving day for the Anglican Church all over the country for overcoming the closure of the places of worship.
“I want you to prepare Sunday Oct 3rd as a speacial Thanksgiving for opening the church buildings and God’s goodness towards us despite the Covid 19 pandemic” the Archbishop letter reads in part.
He also asked the christians to continue using other tools of prayer like online, TV, radio and other media channels for those who are still praying from home.
Archbishop Kaziimba Mugalu also used the opportunity to appeal to the christians to continue contributing to the “Church House Gift Campaign” which is aimed at raising funds to repay a loan the Church owes Equity Bank Loan.
He revealed that so far Ugx 1.2 billion has been raised for the cause adding that he hopes that together the loan can be completed.
He mentioned some of the Dioceses like Kitgum, Namirembe, Kampala, North Kigezi, Kinkizi, Bukedi, Masindi – Kitara, East Rwenzori, Central Buganda, Central Busoga and Muhabura which have already made a contribution and other Institutions and individuals like Hajji Amis who have made a big contribution towards the Church House Gift Campaign.
He concluded that although some Dioceses have not yet contributed, he is aware that they are mobilizing and prayed that they fully participate in raising the funds since it’s their responsibility.
