A section of people vomit, develop stomachache after feasting on grasshoppers in Kasese

Kasese Municipal Health Authorities are investigating circumstances under which a section of people in the urban centre allegedly started vomiting and developing stomachache shortly after eating grasshoppers.

Dr. Joy Muhindo, the Kasese Municipal Health Officer, says she was alerted by the District Surveillance Team that over the weekend, members of some households in Kasese Municipality started vomiting and developed stomach pain after allegedly eating grasshoppers.

According to her, the affected households are from Kisanga B, Kamulikwizi and Nyakasanga West among others in Nyamwamba Division.

The Medical Officer of Health also reveals that after the incident, they were forced to take samples from the live and cooked grasshoppers which have been taken to the Uganda Virus Research Institute and are still waiting for the results.

Mr. Pimako Kasereka, the Nyamwamba Division L. C III Chairperson also told our reporter that he was told that a related incident happened at Rwimi in Bunyangabu district.

Following the incident in his Division, Mr. Kasereka has since directed the residents to put to halt the act of consuming grasshoppers until the results are released.

Hon. Said Thembo Kasiba, the Municipal Councilor representing the people of Kamulikwizi and Kanyangeya Main Electoral Area told our reporter that at least 15 households in his elective area have also been experienced the same shortly after allegedly eating grasshoppers.

Some of the affected persons confirmed to our reporter that after eating the said grasshoppers, they immediately started vomiting and feeling stomach pain and running stomachs.
