Kasese Municipal Council driver arrested for stealing building materials

By Senior Reporter

The police in Kasese district have arrested a driver attached to Kasese Municipal Council in the connection with the theft of building materials commonly known as mark spans for the administration block.

Dionysius Nyakairwa was arrested last evening from the office of the Town Clerk on allegations that the truck that assigned to him was allegedly seen transporting the materials from the construction site.

It is alleged that between December 29, 2021 and January 01, 2022, the truck that the suspect drives was seen by the security guards loading the stolen materials to yet unknown place.

As investigations were ongoing, police was seen last evening storming the office of the Town Clerk and subsequently picked the suspect and took him to Kasese Central Police Station to record a statement about the matter.

Isaiah Tumwesigye, the Kasese Municipal Town Clerk explained to our reporter that as the Municipal authorities, they had heard about the matter and were still making private investigations.

According to him, the authorities would continue working with police to have all the stolen materials recovered and the suspects arrested to answer charges that would be preferred to them.

However, an effort to get a comment from police was futile by press time as the Rwenzori East Regional Police Spokesperson was not readily available in his office.
