A 60 –year –old businessman in Kasese town is in police custody at Kasese Central Police Station on allegations of defiling four minors aged between three and eight years respectively.
The suspect has been identified as Fred Mutesasira, a retail shop operator in Saluti A Cell, Kanyangeya Ward of Nyamwamba Division in Kasese Municipality.
ASP Ismail Kaawo, the Acting Rwenzori East Police Spokesperson confirmed the arrest of the suspect to the press today afternoon at his office in Kasese Town. According to him police have launched investigations into the matter and once they are complete, the suspect will be taken to the courts of law to answer the charges preferred against him.
The police mouth piece has since warned the parents and guardians against sending their children alone to the areas that are known to be harboring criminals.
Zainabu Asiimwe, the Kasese District Senior Probation and Welfare Officer, reported that Christmas season, her office registered over five cases of defilement.
According Asiimwe, only the five cases are within Kasese Municipality and have affected at least 13 girl children.
She used the same platform to appeal to the relevant stakeholders to offer the necessary justice while charging the perpetrators of such criminal cases.
The mother to the two of the victims told the press that she was shocked to learn that her children were among the victims that the suspect has been luring by giving them sweets at his shop.
