Kasese district continues to grapple with a high rate of child abuse.
Sgt. Stephania Kimugha, the Head of Child Protection Unit at Central Police Station Kasese says child neglect and desertion remain top the abuse bar.
Statistics at police indicate that from January 2021 to June 2021 69 children were neglected by their parents while 40 were completely abandoned.
ASP Nelson Tumushime, the Rwenzori East Region police spokesperson attributes neglect and desertion to the failure by some parents to diversify their sources of incomes.
This, he says, makes them run away from responsibility when their only source of income is no longer generating income especially during these lockdown times.
