A group of three pupils from Ebenezer Nursery and Primary School in Rukooki ward of Nyamwamba Division in Kasese Municipality ON Tuesday evening stormed the Office of the Kasese Resident District Commissioner accusing their teachers of spending two days without allegedly teaching them.
The pupils said they sought the intervention of the RDC to address the grievances between the school management and the teachers that they think could be the reason forcing the teachers to abandon attending to them in their respective classrooms.
According to them, when they approach their teachers requesting them to come to class for the normal lessons that they have been handling before, they become furious and immediately shout at them, a reason why they want the RDC’s office to address the issue.
When contacted on phone about the matter, the School’s Head teacher, Edith Kyalisima told the press that the teachers decided to lay down their tools after a peaceful demonstration over the manner in which the school managements has continuously failed to pay the teachers’ salaries.
According to her, the School’s Managing Director has since ordered that the pupils should be dismissed until he settles the matter.
The Kasese Deputy RDC, Joshua Kisembo Masereka says they are going to investigate the issue and come up with a concrete solution.
According to him, today morning, his office also learnt that Kaswa Primary School in Bwesumbu Sub-county is consistently registering absenteeism of teachers, arguing that the victims at both primary schools will be called to record statements at police.
